Objective To observe the effect and mechanism of Jianwei Yuyang （Strengthen the stomach to heal the ulcer） Granule on peptic ulcer （PU） patients. Methods Totally 46 Hp-positive PU patients were randomized into treatment group （treated with Jianwei Yuyang Granule） and control group （treated with western medicine）. Before and after treatment

the inflammation degree of gastric antrum was determined with HE staining and the expression of NF-κB and β-defensin-2 in the gastric mucosa was tested by immunohistochemistry respectively. Results Jianwei Yuyang Granule significantly relieved the chronic inflammation and active degree of gastric antrum （P<0.01 and P<0.05 respectively）

inhibited the activation of NF-κB

and down-regulated the increased expression of NF-κB and β-defensin-2 （P<0.01 or P<0.05）. Conclusion Jianwei Yuyang Granule plays a role in anti-inflammation in promoting the healing of PU possibly through inhibiting the activation of NF-κB and decreasing the over-expression of β-defensin-2.
