Objective To observe the influence of the medicines for resolving phlegm and the medicines for promoting blood circulation on the peroxysome proliferators-activated receptor α (PPARα) in the liver of the hyperlipemia-modeled rats in order to make sure the effect of different components of the whole formula. Methods The 50 Wistar rats were randomized into 5 groups: blank group
model group
whole formula group
group taking the medicines for resolving phlegm
and group taking the medicines for promoting blood circulation. The rats except the blank group were modeled by giving high fat feed into stomach once a day . After 30 days
RT-PCR was adopted to determine the level of PPARα mRNA of each group. Results The level of PPARα mRNA of model group was apparently lower than that of blank group. Compared with the model group
the PPARα mRNA of the whole formula group and the group taking medicines for resolving phlegm increased evidently
but there was no significant difference between the group taking medicines for promoting blood circulation and the model group on the level of PPARα mRNA. Conclusion The medicines for resolving phlegm in the whole formula play the most important role in increasing PPARα mRNA in the liver of the hyperlipemia model rats
while the medicines for promoting blood circulation may affect through other ways.
