Objective To study the correlation between the prostate texture of chronic prostatitis(CP)patients and its TCM syndromes.Methods The 918 outpatients of CP were collected and diagnosed with TCM syndrome differentiation.The distributed frequency of each syndrome was studied statistically to analyze the correlation between the prostate texture and syndrome manifestation together with the diagnostic palpation.Results(1)TCM syndromes:percentage of downward flow of damp-heat
qi stagnation and blood stasis
liver and kidney yin deficiency
kidney yang deficiency
downward flow of damp-heat plus qi stagnation and blood stasis was 74.07%
89.76%
13.62%
22.55% and 50.11%
respectively.(2)Palpation:prostate plump 20.59%
flat 55.34%
hard 14.71%
size reduced 9.37%.(3)Test of correlation between size-reduced prostate and kidney yang deficiency:P=0.0001
SE=0.630679
OR=15.422.Pearson test P>0.05
good in model fitting.Pearson test of other conditions in palpation:P<0.05
not good in model fitting.Conclusion Downward flow of damp-heat and qi stagnation and blood stasis are the main syndrome manifestations of CP patients and they are often combined in appearance.In palpation
the prostate of most cases is flat
then the plump and hard takes the second and the size reduction occupies the least.Size reduction is of importance in diagnosis of kidney yang deficiency.
