Objective To observe the effect of He’s Santong method （Three ways to remove obstruction） of acupuncture for treatment of cervical spondylosis of nerve-root type.Methods The 52 patients with nerve-root type cervical spondylosis were randomly divided into two groups

26 in each. The treatment group was treated by He’s Santong method of acupuncture while the control group was administered Gentongping Granule

2 weeks as one course. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by comparing the scores of symptoms

visual analogue scale （VAS） and changes in hemorheology after treatment.Results The total effective rate of the treatment and control groups was 96.1% and 69.2% respectively with a significant difference between （P<0.05）. The scores of symptoms of the treatment group after treatment were better than those of the control group （P<0.05）. The difference between the two groups in high shear viscosity of blood was significant （P<0.05）. The high shear viscosity of blood in the treatment group was lowered significantly.Conclusion He’s Santong method of acupuncture had a definite therapeutic effect on cervical spondylosis of nerve-root type. It can relieve symptoms and pain in the local region. Its functional mechanism may be related with the improvement of hemorheology.
