Objective To observe the Effect of Bushen Huoxue Formula （Formula for Reinforcing Kidney and Activating Blood） on the study-memory function and cerebral neurotransmitter of diabetic mice. Methods Totally 40 ICR mice were randomized into normal control group

model group

Nimotop group and Chinese medicine group

with 10 in each. Alloxan tail intravenous injection was applied to duplicate diabetes models. Four weeks later

the intragastric administration with Bushen Huoxue Formula for the Chinese medicine group

Nimotop for the Nimotop group

and isometric distilled water for the other two groups were given respectively for 8 weeks. The changes of blood sugar of all groups were observed. Morris labyrinth test was used to determine their study-memory function. And the contents of cerebral cortical nor epinephrine （NE）

dopamine （DA）

5-hydroxyl tryptamines （5-HT）

and 5-hydroxyl indole acetic acid （5-HIAA） were measured. Results The blood sugar of diabetic models was increased compared with those of normal control group

the difference was significant （P<0.05 or P<0.01）. The Morris latency of Nimotop group and Chinese medicine groups was obviously shortened in comparison with that of model group （P<0.01）. The content of cerebral cortical NE of Chinese medicine group was higher than that of the model group （P<0.01）. Conclusion Bushen Huoxue Formula is effective in improving the study-memory function of diabetic mice

its mechanism is possibly related to increase of cerebral cortical NE of mice.
