Objective To study the mechanism of Liangrun Tongluo Recipe（Recipe of cool and moistening herbs for removing obstruction of meridians and collaterals） in improving gastrointestinal function of diabetic rats.Methods Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: Liangrun Tongluo Recipe group

cisapride group

model group and normal group.Every group had three treatment stages: prevention stage

early treatment stage and treatment stage.The diabetic rat models were made by streptozotocin（STZ） injection.The models were fed for 6 weeks

12 weeks and 18 weeks respectively

and then they were given gavage treatment.After gavage for 6 weeks

plasma motilin（MOT）

cholecystokinin（CCK）

somatostatin（SS）

blood glucose and body weight were tested.Results The content of plasma MOT and CCK of the model group increased gradually

while body weight and the contents of SS decreased gradually.In Liangrun Tongluo Recipe group

CCK

SS and body weight in the three stage were all improved significantly（P<0.05） as compared with those in the model group

while in cisapride group

SS and body weight in 12 and 18 weeks were not improved significantly（P>0.05）.Blood glucose of both groups in 6 weeks

12 weeks

and 18 weeks was not affected significantly（P>0.05）.Conclusion Liangrun Tongluo Recipe has the superiority in improving the disturbance of the gastrointestinal function of diabetic rats.
