Objective To study the correlation between the TCM Syndrome distribution and glucolipids metabolism of the patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS).Methods Totally 212 PCOS patients were collected. The symptom score and thresholding method were adopted to determine the syndromes and the weight of each differentiation element
and fuzzy c-mean(FCM)clustering algorithm was used to sum up syndromes. The syndrome distribution characteristics were analyzed by determing fasting plasma glucose(FPG)
glucose area under the curve(GAUC)
fasting insulin(FINS)
insulin area under the curve(IAUC)
homestatic model insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR)
total cholesterol(TC)
triglycerides(TG)
high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)
and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C).Results The clustering result show that kidney deficiency syndrome was found in 64 patients(30.19%)
liver stagnation syndrome in 61 patients(28.77%)
spleen deficiency syndrome in 41 patients(19.34%)
phlegm damp syndrome in 33 patients(15.57%)
and blood stasis syndrome in 13 patients(6.13%).The level of FINS in the phlegm damp syndrome was significantly higher than in other syndrome types
with statistical difference compared with the liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndromes(P<0.01).The peak concentration of insulin was significantly higher in the blood stasis syndrome
with statistical difference compared with the liver stagnation syndrome(P<0.05).HOMA-IR index showed that it was the highest in the phlegm damp syndrome
with statistical difference compared with the type of kidney deficiency and liver stagnation(P<0.01).TG and LDL-C increased in the patients of phlegm damp syndrome
with statistical difference compared with the liver stagnation and kidney deficiency syndromes(P<0.01).Conclusion The primary syndrome types of PCOS are kidney deficiency
liver stagnation
spleen deficiency
phlegm damp
and blood stasis
of which
there is significant correlation between the phlegm damp syndrome and the indices of HOMA-IR
