Objective To verify the potential functions of Baizhu(白术 Atractylodes Macrocephala)in antitussive
expectorant
analgesia
and hemostatic by animal experimental study. Methods The mice cough models were established with the method of strong aqua ammonia spraying and the antitussive function of Baizhu was observed in the experimental treatment. The expectorant effect was observed with phenol red secretion.Hot-plate and glacial acetic acid stimulation writhing method was used to bake model of pain and to test the analgsia effect. While its hemostatic function was explored by detecting the indices including prothrombin time(PT)
activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT)
fibrinogen C(Fbg C)
and thrombin time(TT)
etc. Results Baizhu could extend the cough incubation period
reduce the frequency of cough(P<0.05 or P<0.01)
increase the phenol red excretion of respiratory tract(P<0.05)
increase pain threshold(P<0.05 or P<0.01)
reduce the time of body-twisting caused by pain(P<0.05)
reduce Fbg C
and prolong PT and APTT(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusion Baizhu decoction has the functions of antitussive
