Objective To compare the effect of blood-activating damp-dissolving method and spleen-strengthening damp-dissolving method on chronic venous edema of lower limbs. Methods Fifty cases with chronic venous edema of lower limbs were divided into two groups. The blood-activating group
30 cases
was administered Qushi Xiaozhong Capsules(Capsule for dissolving damp and relieving edema)
while the spleen-strengthening group
20 cases
was given Shenling Baizhu Wan(Bolus of Ginseng
Poria and Bighead Atractylodes)
for 8 weeks. The changes in the scores of TCM symptoms and signs
and the thickness of skin and subcutaneous tissue in the specific areas of lower limbs detected by the Color Doppler Ultrasound examination were observed. Results After treatment
curative and remarkably effective rates(66.67%) and total effective rate(86.67%) of the blood-activating group were significantly higher than those of the spleen-strengthening group
being 35.06% and 60.00% respectively(P<0.05).The scores of symptoms and signs of both groups were lowered
but those of the blood-activating group were more significant(P<0.05);the thickness of skin and subcutaneous tissue in both groups was reduced
but there was no significant difference between groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The blood-activating damp-dissolving method is better than the spleen-strengthening damp-dissolving method in effect on chronic venous edema of lower limbs.
