Objective To observe the effect of herbal-cake-isolated moxibustion on the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ(PPARγ) in aortic endothelial cells of atherosclerosis(AS) rabbits and explore its functional mechanism in delaying the AS formation. Methods The AS models were established through high-fat diet and immunologic injury.Seventy-five New Zealand white rabbits were randomized into 5 groups
i.e.blank control group
model group
direct moxibustion group
herbal-cake-isolated moxibustion group
and atorvastatin group
with 15 rabbits in each. The expression of PPARγ in aortic endothelial cells was measured after treatment of 16 weeks. Results The PPARγ expression of the model group was lower than the blank control group
atorvastatin group
and herbal-cake moxibustion group with a significant difference(P<0.01 or P <0.05).Compared with the direct moxibustion group
the average grey degree of PPARγ of the atorvastatin group and herbal-cake-isolated moxibustion group was decreased(P<0.05).There was no significant difference between the atorvastatin group and herbal-cake-isolated moxibustion group(P>0.05).Conclusion The herbal-cake-isolated moxibustion is able to activate the PPARγ expression in aortic endothelial cells of AS rabbits to delay the formation of atherosclerotic plaque.
