Objective To observe the clinical effect of Tiaojing Zhuyun Recipe（Recipe for regulating menstruation to get conception）combined with metformin hydrochloride on polycystic ovary syndrome（PCOS）.Methods Sixty PCOS patients were randomized into 3 groups with 20 in each.The Chinese medicine group was administered Tiaojing Zhuyun Recipe

the western medicine group was medicated with metformin hydrochloride

and the integrated group was given both.Six menstrual cycles were observed to see the changes in body mass index（BMI）

waist-hip ratio（WHR）

Ferriman-Gallwey score（F-G score）

menstruation

sexual hormones

and insulin resistance（IR）.Results The patients in the integrated group got the decrease in BMI

WHR

luteotropic hormone（LH）

testosterone（T）

LH/follicule-stimulating hormone（FSH）

and HOMAIR（P<0.05）

and the improvement in menstruation

while their F-G score and FSH were not changed significantly（P> 0.05）.In improving the menstruation

the integrated group was better than the western medicine group（P<0.05）.In improving LH and HOMA-IR

the integrated group was better than the Chinese medicine group（P<0.05）.In improving T and LH/FSH

the integrated group was better than both the western medicine group and Chinese medicine group（P<0.05）.The clinical effect of the integrated group was better than that of the other two groups（P<0.05）.Conclusion The combination of Tiaojing Zhuyun Recipe with metformin hydrochloride is a good treatment for PCOS.
