Objective To compare the effects between the pelvic-correction and press-rubbing method and warm needling method in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods Eighty-six patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized into treatment group and control group with 43 cases in each. The treatment group was treated with pelvic-correction and press-rubbing
3 times a week
and the control group was treated with warm needling
once every other day. The course of treatment was of 4 weeks. The effect on knee pain
stiffness
function lost or not
and total score was assessed with the osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) scores before treatment
2 and 4 weeks after treatment respectively. Results The WOMAC scores of various indices were closely related with the treatment time of the patients of the two groups
and the difference of all time points was statistically significant (P<0.01). The difference of WOMAC scores of all indices was also statistically significant (P<0.05 or (P<0.01)). Conclusion Both pelvic-correction and press-rubbing treatment and warm needling treatment are effective for knee osteoarthritis
while the former was superior to the latter in the results.
