Objective To observe the influence of acupuncture on glucose and lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Methods Seventy-on e metabolic syndrome patie nts were randomized into treatment group(37 cases) and control group(34 cases). The treatment group was given acupuncture on the back-shu points including Ganshu(BL18)
Feishu(BL13)
Weishu(BL21)
Sanjiaoshu(BL22)
Pishu(BL20)
Geshu(BL17)
Shenshu(BL23)
combined wit h Zusanli(ST36)
Neiguan(PC6) and Sanyinjiao(SP6).The patients in the con trol group was orally taken 0.5g of metformin
three times daily.After 12 weeks
body mass index(BMI)
insulin sensitivity index(ISI)
serum triglycerides(TG)
high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)
total cholesterol(TC) and blood pressure were observed.Result s The total effective rate of the treatment group was 91.89%
and that of the control group was 50%.The difference was statistically significant between two groups(P<0.05).Comparing with before treatment
the differences of ISI
systolic blood pressure
BMI and blood lipid were statistically signif icant in the treatment group(P<0.05)
but there was no statistical significance in the control group(P>0.05).The differences of the index mentioned above wer e statistically significant between groups after treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion Acupu ncture is effective for metabolic syndrome with a better effect on reducing blood glucose and improving ISI as well as lipid metablism
