Objective To explore the influence of chronic enraged stress on the motility of antral smooth muscles
hypothalamic and plasma corticotropin releasing horm one(CRH)
adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH)
leptin and motilin in rats and the interfering effect of Chaihu Shugan Powder [Power of Chaihu(Radix Bupleuri) fo r soothing the liver].Methods Forty Wistar rats were randomiz ed into 4 groups
with 10 in each. The normal group was not given any stimulation. The rats in the other g roups were stimulated by nipping at the tails for 30min
twice daily.Chaihu Shugan Powder [27.5g/(kg·d)]or normal saline was added to the observati on group and the control group respectively through gastric feeding. After 14 da ys
the motility of antral smooth muscles
hypothalamic and plasms CRH
leptin and motilin were observed. Results The frequency and amplitude of the antral mus cle contraction in the mo del group was significantly lower than that in the normal group(P<0.01).T he le vel of hypothalamic CRH and leptin
and plasma CRH
ACTH and leptin were significantly increased in the model group(P<0.01)
while the level of hypothalam ic an d plasma motilin significantly decreased(P<0.01).Comparing with the model grou p
the frequency and amplitude of the antral muscle contraction and the level of hypothalamic and plasm motilin was significantly increased(P<0.01)
but t he level of hypothalamic and plasma CRH
ACTH and leptin decreased significantly(P <0.01).Conclusion Chaihu Shugan Powder could increas e the gastric motility and improve the level of bran-gut peptides
