Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of enteral infusion of Modified Baitouweng Decoction(Modified Pulsatilla Decoction)combined with acupoint catgut embedding on mild to moderate ulcerative colitis(UC)with damp-heat brewing and binding syndrome. Methods Sixty five mild to moderate UC patients with damp-heat brewing and binding syndrome were randomized into the observation group of 33cases and control group of 32cases.The observation group was given enteral infusion of 100ml Modified Baitouweng Decoction
twice daily on 8am and 8pm respectively and combined with acupoint catgut embedding
once weekly. The control group was given enteral infusion of 2.0g sulfasalazine dissolved in 100ml metronidazole solution
twice daily on 8am and 8pm respectively. The treatment lasted for 4weeks.The scores of Chinese symptoms and colonic mucosa and the clinical efficacy were observed in both groups after treatment. Results The symptom scores and total scores in the observation group were significantly decreased after treatment(P<0.05).The scores of diarrhea and pus and blood stools and total scores in the control group were significantly decreased after treatment(P<0.05).The scores of abdominal pain
diarrhea
pus and blood stools and tenesmus in the observation group were lower than those in the control group after treatment(P<0.05).The scores of colonic mucosa congestion
edema
erosion and ulcers were significantly decreased in both groups after treatment(P<0.05)
especially in the observation group(P<0.05).The total effective rate of the observation group and control group was 93.94%and 75.00%respectively
with a significant difference between groups(P<0.05).Conclusion The enteral infusion of Modified Baitouweng Decoction combined with acupoint catgut embedding is effective for mild to moderate UC with damp-heat brewing and binding syndrome
