Objective To study the expression of liver X-receptors（LXRs） in metabolic syndrome（MS） rats and the intervention effect of Chaihu Shugan Powder（Bupleurum Liver-Coursing Powder）.Methods Twelve MS model rats were randomized into the MS group and Chinese medicinal group（No.1 Chinese medicinal group）

with 6 in each.Sixteen MS model rats with liver qi stagnation pattern（LQSP） were randomized into the MS LQSP group and MS LQSP Chinese medicinal group（No.2 Chinese medicinal group）

with 8 in each.The MS group and MS LQSP group were gavaged with normal saline.The No.1 Chinese medicinal group and No.2 Chinese medicinal group were gavaged with Chaihu Shugan Powder.After the modeling

each group was gavaged with 1ml/100g of corresponding drug once daily for 3 weeks.The levels of fasting blood glucose（FBG）

triglycerides（TG）

total cholesterol（TC）

low density lipoprotein cholesterol（LDL-C） and high density lipoprotein cholesterol（HDL-C） in each group were detected.The rat liver tissue was removed by laparotomy and was conducted immunohistochemical staining.The light microscopy was used to observe the expression of LXRs in rat liver tissue.Results There were significant differences between the MS group and No.1 Chinese medicinal group in the levels of FBG

TC and HDL-C（P<0.05）.There were significant differences between the MS LQSP group and No.2 Chinese medicinal group in the levels of FBG

TC and HDL-C（P<0.05）.The immunohistochemical staining score was 9 in the MS group with strongly positive（+++）

2 in the No.1 Chinese medicinal group with weekly positive（+）

9 in the MS LQSP group with strongly positive（+++）

and 3 in the No.2 Chinese medicinal group with weekly positive（+）.Conclusion Chaihu Shugan Powder can decrease the high expression of LXRs in the MS rat liver tissue

which may be one of the mechanisms in treating MS.
