Objective To research the pattern efficacy evaluation for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) based on the disease-pattern combination mode. Methods Totally 240 hospitalized patients with CAP were collected from 4 hospitals and randomized into the treatment group (120 cases) and control group (120 cases) with stratified block randomisation method. The control group was given basic and anti-infection treatment. The treatment group was added with TCM treatment. One treatment course lasted for 7 days and both groups were treated for 2 treatment courses and followed up for 7 days. The pattern efficacy was evaluated according to the disappearance rate
cure rate
unchanged rate and exacerbation rate of patterns based on comparing with comprehensive efficacy. Results The comprehensive efficacy of the treatment group and control group was 87.93% and 84.03% respectively
with a significant difference between groups (P<0.001).There were significant differences between groups in the overall pattern efficacy and efficacy of phlegm-heat congesting the lung pattern (P<0.001).Comparing with the Response Evaluation Criteria in western medicine
the κ value for pattern efficacy and comprehensive efficacy equaled 0.608 (κ=0.608)
sensitivity equaled 0.901 (Sen=0.901)
specificity equaled 0.818 (Spe=0.818) and accuracy equaled 0.880 (Acc=0.880).Conclusion Using the disappearance rate
cure rate
unchanged rate and exacerbation rate of patterns to evaluate the pattern efficacy of CAP can compare the efficacy of two therapies for a disease or different therapies for a pattern with a better sensitivity
