Objective To study the efficacy and safety of acupoint plaster therapy for opioid-induced constipation( OIC) in patients with cancer pain. Methods Totally 44 cases of OIC were randomized into the treatment group and control group
with 22 in each. The treatment group was given acupoint plaster therapy
4—6 h / each time
once daily. The control group was given phenolphthalein tablets
200 mg
three times per day.The treatment lasted for 14days( two treatment courses). The Karnofsky score( KPS) and constipation Cleveland scale( CCS) were observed before and after treatment. Results The total effective rate and total stable rate of KPS in the treatment group was36.36% and 95.45% respectively
which was higher than 18.18% and 54.55% in the control group( P < 0.01).The scores of CCS were significantly decreased in both groups after 1-week and 2-week treatment( P < 0.05)
especially after 2-week treatment( P < 0.05).There was no significant difference between groups in the scores of CCS after 1-week and 2-week treatment( P > 0.05).The total effective rate of CCS in the treatment group was 90.91%
which was significantly higher than 77.27% in the control group( P < 0.01).There was no obvious adverse reaction in both groups. Conclusion The acupoint plaster therapy is effective and safe for OIC in patients with cancer pain.
