Objective To study the possible mechanism of Xiaoyao Powder( Free Wanderer Powder
逍遥散) for acute Tripterygium-induced liver injury in rats. Methods Thirty Sprague-Dawley( SD) rats were randomized into the normal group
model group and Xiaoyao Powder group
with 10 in each. The rat models of acute Tripterygiuminduced liver injury were established by intragastric administration of 3. 75 g / kg Tripterygium decoction in the model group and Xiaoyao Powder group for 4 consecutive days. The Xiaoyao Powder group was gavaged with 6. 75 g / kg Xiaoyao Powder for 4 days before modeling. The normal group and model group were gavaged with an equal volume of distilled water. The intragastric administration lasted for 8 days. The liver index
serum alanine aminotransferase( ALT)
aspartate aminotransferase( AST)
cluster of differentiation 68( CD68) and tumor necrosis factor-α( TNF-α) were detected. Results Comparing with the normal group
the liver index
ALT
AST
CD68 and TNF-α in the model group were significantly increased( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01). Comparing with the model group
the liver index
ALT
AST
CD68 and TNF-α in the Xiaoyao Powder group were significantly decreased( P < 0. 01). Conclusion Acute Tripterygium-induced liver injury is associated with the up-regulation of CD68 and TNF-α. The protective effect of Xiaoyao Powder( 逍遥散) on acute Tripterygium-induced liver injury may be relevant to down-regulating CD68 and TNF-α.
