Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of nape needling combined with Chinese herbal ice stimulation for dysphagia after stroke. Methods Totally 60 patients with dysphagia after stroke were randomized into treatment group and control group
with 30 in each. The treatment group was given nape needling and Chinese herbal ice stimulation based on routine therapy. The control group was given routine therapy and swallowing rehabilitation. The efficacy was evaluated after 4-week treatment in both groups. The scores of swallowing function were compared before and after treatment in both groups. Results The scores of swallowing function were significantly decreased in the treatment group after 2-week
3-week and 4-week treatment( P < 0. 05). There was no significant difference between before and after treatment in the scores of swallowing function in the control group( P > 0. 05). There was a significant difference between groups in the scores of swallowing function at the same time point after 3-week or 4-week treatment( P < 0. 05). The cure rate in the treatment group and control group was 43. 3% and 10. 0% respectively
with a significant difference between groups( P < 0. 05). Conclusion The combo therapy of nape needling and Chinese herbal ice stimulation is effective for dysphagia after stroke and can obviously improve the swallowing function.
