Objective To research the effects of acupoint application of Mustard Seeds with different proportions on the immune functions in patients with bronchial asthma. Methods Totally 90 cases of bronchial asthma were randomized into the raw Mustard Seeds group
half raw and half fried Mustard Seeds group and fried Mustard Seeds group
with 30 in each. In the raw Mustard Seeds group
raw Mustard Seeds
Gansui( Radix Kansui)
Yanhusuo( Rhizoma Corydalis) and Xixin( Radix et Rhizoma Asari) were used at a ratio of 2 ∶ 2 ∶ 1 ∶ 1. In the half raw and half fried Mustard Seeds group
raw Mustard Seeds
fried Mustard Seeds
Gansui
Yanhusuo and Xixin were used at a ratio of 1 ∶ 1 ∶ 2 ∶ 1 ∶ 1. In the fried Mustard Seeds group
fried Mustard Seeds
Gansui
Yanhusuo and Xixin were used at a ratio of 2 ∶ 2 ∶ 1 ∶ 1. In each group
the acupoint application was conducted on Tianshu( CV22)
Danzhong( CV17)
Dingchuan( EX-B1)
Fengmen( BL12) and Feishu( BL13) in the dog days( three periods forming the hottest periods of summer) once each period for three times. The efficacy
skin reactions
immunoglobullins and eosinophils( EOS) were observed after treatment. Results The cured
marked effective
effective and ineffective cases in the raw Mustard Seeds group were 3
14
11 and 2 respectively
while there were 1 cured
14 marked effective
12 effective and 3 ineffective in the half raw and half fried Mustard Seeds group
and there were 1 cured
10 marked effective
11 effective and 8 ineffective in the fried Mustard Seeds group
with no significant difference among groups( P > 0. 05). The total scores of skin reactions in the three groups
were significantly decreased after treatment( P < 0. 05). Differences in the inimmunoglobulins and EOS between before and after treatment were significant in all groups( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01). The serum IgG level in the fried Mustard Seeds group was significantly lower than that in the raw Mustard Seeds group( P < 0. 05). Conclusion The acupoint application of Mustard Seeds with different proportions can effectively relieve symptoms and improve immune functions in patients with bronchial asthma. The skin reactions are gradually increased as increasing the proportion of raw Mustard Seeds
but the degree of skin reaction has no significant effect on immune function.
