Objective To study the possible mechanism of Naoluotong Granules for atherosclerosis( AS). Methods The AS models were established by high-fat diet feeding 30 8-week-old ApoE-/-mice for 10 months. The model mice were randomized into the model group
Naoluotong group and Simvastatin group
with 10 in each. Ten 8-week-old C57BL /6J mice were selected as the blank group. The mice in the Naoluotong group were gavaged with 6. 67g / kg Naoluotong Granules solution. The mice in the Simvastatin group were gavaged with 6. 67mg / kg Simvastatin Tablets solution. The mice in the blank group and model group were gavaged with the same amount of normal saline. The mice in each group were given intragastric administration once daily for 2 months. The levels of blood lipids
vascular tissue plaque area index
tumor necrosis factor-α( TNF-α)
nuclear factor-κB( NF-κB) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ( PPAR-γ) were compared. Results Comparing with the blank group
the levels of blood lipids
TNF-α and NF-κB were significantly increased but the PPAR-γ level was significantly decreased in the model group( P < 0. 01). Comparing with the model group
the levels of blood lipids
vascular tissue plaque area index
TNF-α and NF-κB were significantly decreased but the PPAR-γ level was significantly increased in the Naoluotong group and Simvastatin group( P < 0. 01). Conclusion Naoluotong Granules is effective for AS
which may be relevant to regulating the balance of NF-κB and PPAR-γ in ApoE-/- mouse models.
