Objective To observe the efficacy of Huangqin Qingre Chubi Capsules [capsules of Huangqin（Scutellariae Radix） to clear heat and eliminate impediment]combined with Furong Plaster for acute attack of gouty arthritis. Methods Sixty patients were randomized into the treatment group and control group

with 30 in each.Both groups were given 7. 5 mg Meloxicam Dispersible Tablets twice daily. The treatment group was added with Huangqin Qingre Chubi Capsules 3 capsules each time and 3 times daily with oral administration and Furong Plaster(applied topically for 6h each time and twice daily. The treatment lasted for 2 weeks. The onset time for joint pain

CRP level and UA level（P < 0. 05 or P <0. 01）. There was no obvious adverse reaction in both groups. Conclusion Huangqin Qingre Chubi Capsules combined with Furong Plaster is effective for acute attack of gouty arthritis. The treatment can relieve pain and reduce the levels of ESR

CRP and UA with a rapid onset and good safety.
