Objective To observe the efficacy of acupuncture for urinary retention in cervical cancer patients after radical surgery. Methods Totally 107 cervical cancer patients after radical surgery were randomized into the treatment group of 74 cases and control group of 33 cases. The treatment group was given acupuncture on Zhongji( CV3)
Qihai( CV6)
Guanyuan( CV4)
Sanyinjiao( SP6)
Zusanli( ST36) and Yinlingquan( SP9) with needles retaining for 30 min and electro-acupuncture for 30 min once daily. The control group was given routine postoperative treatment. The residual urine volume and successful extubation time on the 9th day and 14 th day after surgery were compared. The efficacy was evaluated. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group and control group was91.89% and 66.67% respectively
with a significant difference between groups( P < 0.05).The indwelling catheter time in the treatment group was significantly shorter than that in the control group( P < 0.05).There was no significant difference between groups in the residual urine volume on the 9th day after surgery( P > 0.05).The residual urine volume in the treatment group on the 14 th day after surgery was less than that in the control group( P < 0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture can obviously improve bladder function
shorten indwelling catheter time and reduce postoperative residual urine volume in cervical cancer patients after radical surgery.
