Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of Yiqi Huatan Tongluo Mixture combined with acupuncture and western medicine on cerebral infarction（ CI） patients in convalescence. Methods Totally 172 CI patients in convalescence were randomized into the treatment group and control group

with 86 in each. Both groups were given routine treatment. The treatment group was added with Yiqi Huatan Tongluo Mixture（ oral administration for100 ml

twice each day） and acupuncture at points Hegu（ LI4） and Taichong（ LV3） once each day. Both groups were treated for 30 days. The neurological impairment degree

TCM syndrome score and safety evaluation index in both groups were observed before and after treatment. Results A total of 171 cases finished the observation

85 in the treatment group and 86 in the control group. After treatment

the neurological impairment score and TCM symptom score were significantly decreased in both groups（ P < 0. 05） and the scores in the treatment group was remarkably lower than those in the control group（ P < 0. 05）. The difference between before and after treatment in the treatment group was significantly bigger than that in the control group（ P < 0. 05）. The curative rate and total effective rate of clinical neurological function deficit scale in the treatment group were 45. 88% and 91. 76% respectively and 22. 09%and 66. 28% in the control group respectively

with a significant difference between groups（ P < 0. 05）. The curative rate and total effective rate of TCM symptoms in the treatment group were 45. 88% and 92. 94% respectively and19. 76% and 62. 79% in the control group respectively

with a significant difference between groups（ P < 0. 05）.Conclusion Yiqi Huatan Tongluo Mixture combined with acupuncture and western medicine can obviously relieve the symptoms and signs of neurological impairment.
