This article systematically sums up the experiences in the treatment of intractable jaundice in Beijing Ditan Hospital’s Integrated Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine( TCM) Center. According to modern medical diagnosis
intractable jaundice was categorized liver failure related jaundice
intrahepatic cholestasis related jaundice
chronic hepatopathy residual jaundice and special type jaundice. The clinical features
pathogenesis characters
methods of syndrome differentiation and insights of its treatments were discussed systematically based on the research in this field. It is concluded that the treatment of intractable jaundice should emphasize on etiologic factors
and pay attention to the main pathogenesis development combined with individual syndrome differentiation. The academic view in treating intestines for acute phase of jaundice and treating spleen for chronic phase is developed. Also
it is indicated that the limitation of TCM remedy should be recognized
and multidisciplinary approaches are suggested for treating intractable jaundice.
