Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of the integrative treatment of western routine rehabilitation combined with oral administration
fumigation and washing with traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) on patients with tibial Pilon fracture after limited internal fixation. Methods Seventy nine patients with tibial Pilon fracture after limited internal fixation were randomly divided into a treatment group( 42 cases) and a control group( 37 cases). Both groups were given routine rehabilitation. The treatment group was added with oral TCM based on syndrome differentiation according to the three phases of bone fracture
as well as TCM fumigation and washing after taking out stitches and cut healed up. Clinical efficacy and fracture healing time were observed 8 weeks after treatment. Visual Analog Scale( VAS) was applied to evaluate the pain before and after the treatment. Results The effective rate was 90. 48% in the treatment group and 72. 97% in the control group
with a significantly difference between the groups( P < 0. 01). VAS scores were significantly lower after treatment in both groups( P < 0. 01). Comparing with the control group
VAS scores declined more significantly in the treatment group( P < 0. 05). The average fracture healing time was( 13. 5 ± 2. 8) weeks in the treatment group and( 17. 3 ± 3. 4) weeks in control group( P < 0. 05).Conclusion Integrated therapy of TCM and western medicine can promote the healing process of bone fracture
