Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of modified Liujunzi Decoction as an intervention during chemotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer( NSCLC) patients. Methods Sixty-one advanced NSCLC patients in need of chemotherapy were randomly divided into control group of 30 cases and treatment group of 31 cases. The control group was given chemotherapy treatment
while the treatment group was given modified Liujunzi Decoction 1 week before the start of chemotherapy. The treatments of both groups lasted for 4 cycles
3 weeks as 1cycle. After the treatments
short-term efficacy of tumor
the changes of TCM syndrome scores
quality of life( QOL) scores and hematological toxicity induced by chemotherapy were observed. Results The short-term efficacy of tumor in the two groups showed no significant difference( P < 0. 05)
while QOL efficacy and TCM syndrome scores were statistically significant( P < 0. 05)
with the treatment group better than the control group. The occurrence of Ⅲ + Ⅳ hematologic toxicity of the treatment group was 12. 90%
which was less than the 36. 67% of the control group( P <0. 05). Conclusion In the treatment of advanced NSCLC
modified Liujunzi Decoction along with chemotherapy could significantly improve the lung and spleen qi deficiency syndrome and the quality of life
reducing the incidence of severe hematological toxicity caused by chemotherapy
