Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Yiqi Mingmu Wan( YQMMW) combined with western medicine to treat anterior ischemic optic neuropathy of spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome. Methods A total of 24 anterior ischemic optic neuropathy patients( 25 eyes) with spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome were included and they were given YQMMW orally
9 g each time
3 times a day
with vitamin B1 20 mg and mecobalamin tablets 500 μg
3 times a day. One course of the treatment was for 2 weeks
with a total of 4 courses. The visual acuity
visual field
fundus and the changes of fundus fluorescein angiography( FFA) were detected before and after treatments to determine the efficacy in vision and TCM syndromes. Results Totally 21 eyes( 84%) out of 25 eyes were effective in vision and 22 eyes( 88%) were effective in TCM syndromes. After treatments
the visual acuity and mean light sensitivity of visual field were significantly improved( P < 0. 01)
and 21 eyes( 84%) showed fundus improvements. Also
17 patients( 18 eyes) undergone FFA revealed faster fluorescence filling after treatments( P < 0. 05). Conclusion YQMMW combined with western medicine can significantly improve the visual function of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy patients with spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome.
