Objective To observe the effect of Fangjing Decoction on recurrence of febrile convulsion in rats. Methods In total 24 rats with febrile convulsion were screened and randomly divided into model group
TCM group
and phenobarbital group
with 8 in each. The model group was treated with 8 ml /( kg·d) of normal saline by gavage
while the phenobarbital group with 10 mg /( kg·d) of phenobarbital and TCM group with 6 g /( kg·d) of raw medicinals of Fangjing Decoction
all for 7 days. From day 8
all rats underwent 47℃ hot water bath test after gavage to induce febrile convulsion once daily for five consecutive days. The latency
duration and severity of the convulsions were observed and rectal temperature was measured. Results The latency of convulsions was longer
the duration was shortened
and the severity was less in the TCM group and phenobarbital group than that in the model group( P< 0. 05). The rectal temperature of all rats were higher than 43℃ during convulsions
which exceeded the test range of the thermometer. Conclusion Fangjing Decoction could prolong the latency of recurrence of febrile convulsions
shorten duration and lessen the degree of convulsions.
