Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Bushen Huoxue Formula in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome（ NS）. Methods Totally 120 patients with nephrotic syndrome were randomly divided into a treatment group（ 60 cases） and a control group（ 60 cases）. Both groups applied routine western medicine

symptomatic and supportive treatment with prednisone 1 mg /（ kg·d）

once daily for 8 weeks

after then a 5 mg reduction gradually per week; and tripterygium glycosides 10 mg each time

3 times a day. On the basis of that

the treatment group weas added with Bushen Huoxue Formula. The clinical efficacy was observed after 3-month treatment. The 24 h urinary protein quantitative detection was conducted with biuret assay before and after treatment. Detection of serum albumin（ ALB） was conducted with bromocresol green assay

while detection of total cholesterol（ TC） and triglyceride（ TG）with enzymatic methods. Result The total effective rate in the treatment group was 90%

which was higher than65% in the control group（ P < 0. 05）. The 24 h urinary protein was significantly decreased

while the serum ALB increased after treatment in both groups（ P < 0. 01）. The improvement in the 24 h urinary protein and serum ALB in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group（ P < 0. 01）. The levels of TG and TC after treatments decreased significantly in both groups（ P < 0. 01）

especially in the treatment group（ P < 0. 01）.Conclusion Bushen Huoxue Formula combined with western medicine could improve the clinical efficacy and reduce urinary protein and blood lipid in the treatment of NS.
