This paper summarizes professor CHEN Huinong’s experience on applying tonifying kidney and promoting blood circulation in treating recurrent abortion. She holds that pathological basis of recurrent spontaneous abortion is kidney deficiency and blood stasis. It is mostly caused by the lack of innate endowment

excess of sexual activity and frequent pregnancy

leading to the kidney qi deficiency

failure of kidney in storing

and insecurity of the fetal origin. In treatment

before pregnancy

for the deficiency cases

tonifying kidney and benefiting qi

nourishing spleen and nourishing blood should be adopted; while for excess cases

promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis

clearing heat and damp should be adopted; after pregnancy

tonifying the kidney and strengthening the spleen

replenishing qi and blood should be adopted. In terms of formula

with Shoutai Pill and Modified Danggui Shaoyao Powder should be used.
