Objective To observe therapeutic effect and security of tonifying kidney and invigorating blood method to treat senile osteoporosis. Methods Totally 200 senile osteoporosis patients were randomized into treatment group and control group
with 100 patients in each group. The treatment group took traditional Chinese medicine of tonifying kidney and invigorating blood
one dose daily. The control group took alendronate sodium 70 mg
once a week
and calcium carbonate D3 tablets 600 mg
once per day. Two groups were treated for 24 weeks. Scores of syndrome
bone mineral density( BMD) of lumbar vertebra( L1- L4)
BMD of left collum femoris
serum osteocalcin( BGP)
bone alkaline phosphatase( BAP)
I tropocollagen N-propeptide( PINP)
tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase( TRACP-5b)
I collagen cross-linking C-peptide( CTX) and security index before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Finally
the researchers evaluated the curative effect of Chinese medical syndrome after treatment. Results The treatment group had 92% curative effect of Chinese medical syndrome
significant higher than that of the control group( 79%
P < 0. 05). Score of syndrome
BMD of lumbar vertebra and collum femoris
BGP
BAP
TRACP-5b
PINP
CTX improved significantly after treatment in both groups( P < 0. 01). After treatment the treatment group’s score of syndrome
BMD of lumbar vertebra and collum femoris
BGP
BAP were superior to the control group( P < 0. 05). No abnormal change of security index was found in both groups. Conclusion Tonifying kidney and invigorating blood may effectively enhance BMD in senile osteoporosis patients
and improve clinical symptoms. These effects may be related to effective regulation of metabolic balance of bone turnover.
