Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safty of Pinggan Jianpi Fang( PJF) in treating Tourette syndrome. Methods Totally 100 children patients with Tourette syndrome were randomly into an observation group and a control group
50 cases in each group. The observation group was given PJF formula granule
one dose daily. The control group was oral haloperidol tablet starting from a small dose with 0. 05 mg /( kg·d)
and the dose would be appropriately adjusted depending on patients’ condition and therapeutic effect. In the two groups
the treatment takes 30 days as one course
and in total lasted for 3 courses. The episode times
frequency and intensity of the two group children patients before treatment and treating for 30
60
90 days would be graded according to Yale Global Tic Severity Scale( YGTSS). The clinical efficacy was also evaluated and the untoward effect was observed during the treatment. Results Complying the project to treat for 30
60
90 days
the total effective rates were41. 3%
63. 0% and 76. 1% respectively in the observation group
and 59. 1%
63. 6% and 77. 3% in the control group. The control group was significantly better than the observation group in the 30-day treatment( P < 0. 05)
and no obvious differences in other points in time( P > 0. 05). The twitch time
frequency and intensity scores in the two groups treating for 30
60
90 days were significantly reduced than those before treatment( P < 0. 05). The control group was much improved than the observation group in the 30-day treatment( P < 0. 05)
and no obvious differences in 60
90-day treatment( P > 0. 05). Compared with the control group
the untoward effect occurrence rate was lower with mild degree in the observation group. Conclusion The PJF seemed working more slowly than haloperidol tablet in treating Tourette syndrome
while with the same late result and higher security.
