The authors put forward the concept and significance of traditional Chinese medicine（ TCM） clinical dosage controlling and analyze three main problems in the current TCM clinical prescription dosage controlling

including lack of summary and research on the basic knowledge related to control dosage

confusion of effective dosage range of drug

and lack of strategy to control drug dosage. The article explores the theoretical basis of dosage controlling and summarizes the "two outlines"of dosage controlling

which refer to the principle of dosage based on symptoms

and three factors in dosage controlling

as well as"fifteen strategies". It also explains the strategies of "monarch drug in large quantities would be better"and "dose superposition "as examples.
