Objective To explore the possible mechanism in treating chronic bronchitis alleviation with curing winter diseases in summer using point application therapy. Methods Fifty patients with chronic bronchitis during alleviation were assigned as the treatment group
and 50 healthy volunteers as the control group. The treatment group received point application on the first day of the first
the second
and the third dogdays
respectively
for 3 times in total. The control group was not intervened. Serum levels of tumor necrosis factor α( TNF-α)
interferon γ( IFN-γ)
interleukin 4( IL-4)
interleukin 8( IL-8)
interleukin 10( IL-10)
surfactant pulmonary protein A( SP-A)
and surfactant pulmonary protein D( SP-D) of two groups were compared before and after treatment. Results Compared with those in the control group
serum levels of IL-4
IL-8 and TNF-α in the treatment group increased while levels of serum IL-10
IFN-γ
SP-A and SP-D decreased before treatment( P < 0. 05). Serum levels of IL-4and IL-8 decreased while serum levels of IL-10
IFN-γ
SP-A and SP-D increased in the treatment group after treatment compared with before( P < 0. 05). Compared with those in the control group
serum levels of IL-4 and TNF-αin the treatment group increased while serum levels of IL-10
IFN-γ
SP-A and SP-D decreased after treatment( P <0. 05). There was no statistical significant difference in level of IL-8 between two groups. Conclusion The method winter diseases treated in summer using point application therapy could regulate the release of inflammatory cytokines and decrease the degree of inflammation occurrence
which may be one of the mechanisms in preventing recurrence of chronic bronchitis.
