Vocal tic is simple or complex vocalization or language due to phonatory organ governing muscles reduplicated involuntary twitching. In modern medicine the causes of vocal tic and motor tic have no essential difference. The disease is the result of the combined action of factors generally including genetic defect
adverse environment
etc. The understanding of vocal tic in Chinese medicine is limited. The disease location
disease character and dialectical thinking are not clear so far. Moreover
confined by the thought of diagnosis and treatment of motor tic
the effect on patients with simple or mostly vocal tic is not satisfied clinically. Thus this paper takes understanding from the origin of Chinese medicine theory as starting point. The authors discuss the causes of vocal tic
disease location
pathogenesis
outcome and characters of five-Zang syndrome differentiation. This paper might provide thought and enlightenment for clinical treatment and syndrome differentiation of vocal tic.
