Objective To observe clinical effects of Wenyang Huoxue Tongbi Fang( 温阳活血通痹方) combined with western medicine on diabetic peripheral neuropathy( DPN) with Yang-deficiency
congealing cold and blood stasis syndrome. Methods Sixty patients with DPN were randomly divided into treatment group and control group
30 cases in each group. Both groups were given the basic treatment to regulate blood sugar level. On this basis
the control group also took mecobalamine
0. 5 mg each time
three times a day. On this basis of the control group
the treatment group also took Wenyang Huoxue Tongbi Fang
one dose daily. Both groups were treated for 2 courses of treatment with 4 weeks for one course. Change of clinical symptom scores
nerve conduction velocity of tibial nerve
sural nerve and nervus peroneus communis and plasma homocysteine( Hcy) before and after treatment in both two groups were observed. Results The total effective rate was 70. 0% in the treatment group
and 46. 5% in the control group. The curative effect in the treatment group was higher than that in the control group( P < 0. 01). After treatment
clinical symptom scores and Hcy decreased significantly in the treatment group and the control group
nerve conduction velocity was much higher than that before treatment. Compared with those before treatment
the differences had statistically significant( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01)
and the improvement of treatment group was superior to the control group( P < 0. 01). Conclusion Wenyang Huoxue Tongbi Fang combined with western medicine may improve clinical symptoms of patients with DPN with Yang-deficiency
congealing cold and blood stasis syndrome clinical symptoms
nerve conduction velocity and plasma Hcy. It is an effective prescription for treating DPN.
