Objective To observe the clinical curative effects of fire-needling at tender points in treating scapulohumeral periarthritis. Methods Randomly divided 60 patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis into observation group and control group
with 30 cases each. The observation group was treated with fire-needle at tender points. In the control group
patients were treated by fire needle at "three shoulder points"
which include Jianyu( LI15)
Jianqian( extro ordinary point) and Jianzhen( SI9). Both groups were treated once every other day
for 12 days.Conducted grading in visual analogue scale( VAS)
Present Pain Intensity( PPI) Score Scale and Range of Rom( ROM) before and after treatment to assesse the clinical curative effects. Results The total clinical effective rate in the observation group was 93. 3% while that of the control group was 66. 7%. The clinical curative effect in the observation group was remarkably superior to that of the control group( P < 0. 05). VAS and PPI scores in both groups remarkably decreased after treatment and indexes of shoulder motion range remarkably inproved( P < 0. 05). All those measurements in the observation group were remarkably superior to those in the control group( P < 0. 05).Conclusion Fire-needling at tender points had exact clinical curative effects for scapulohumeral periarthritis
and could remarkably improve shoulder motion range and relieve pain. The effect of tender points were superior to that of"three shoulder points".
