Objective To observe clinical effects of Chaihu Shugan Decoction( 柴 胡 疏 肝 汤) combined with Zhebeimu( Fritillaria Thunbergii Miq.) treating intractable epilepsy. Methods One hundred and twenty patients with intractable epilepsy were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group with 60 in each group. The control group chose anti-epileptic western medicine of regular dosage according to different attack types. On the basis of the control group
the treatment group took Chaihu Shugan Decoction combined with Zhebeimu( Fritillaria Thunbergii Miq.)
1 dose a day
once in the morning and once in the evening. The treatment last for 16 weeks. The follow-up last for 24 weeks
including 8 weeks before treatment
8 weeks after treatment
16 weeks after treatment and follow-up period( once in every 8 weeks after the course of treatment
3 times in total). The researchers compared the seizure frequency of epileptic and the abnormal rate of EEG in the two groups and evaluated the clinical effects. Results The clinical total effective rate was 88. 33 % in the treatment group
better than that 76. 67 % in the control group( P < 0. 05). Compared with those before treatment
the average seizure frequency of epileptic and the abnormal rate of EEG decreased at different time points in treatment and follow-up visit after treatment in the two groups( P <0. 05); And the improvement at different time points in treatment and follow-up visit in the treatment group was better than that in the control group( P < 0. 05). Conclusion Chaihu Shugan Decoction combined with Zhebeimu(Fritillaria Thunbergii Miq.) treating intractable epilepsy had remarkable effects
and can reduce seizure frequency of epileptic and improve EEG.
