Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Mongolian medicine Shisanwei Honghua Mijue Pill（ 十三味红花密诀丸） in treating allergic rhinitis. Methods Sixty four patients with allergic rhinitis were divided into a treatment group and a control group

with 32 cases in each. The treatment group was given Mongolian medicine Shisanwei Honghua Mijue Pill

10 pills each time

2 times per day. The control group was given Qianbai Biyan Tablet（ 千柏鼻炎片）

4 tablets each time

3 times a day. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. Before and after treatment

nasal symptom scores of sneezing

runny nose

nasal itching

nasal congestion were observed

and serum level of immunoglobulin E（ Ig E） in the two groups were tested. Results The scores of the symptoms and the serum level of Ig E in the two groups after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment（ P < 0. 01）

and the scores of sneezing

runny nose

nasal itching

and nasal congestion in the treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group（ P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01）. There was no significant difference in the serum level of Ig E between the two groups after treatment（ P > 0. 05）. Conclusion Mongolian medicine Shisanwei Honghua Mijue Pill（ 十三味红花密诀丸） could improve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis

and decrease patients’ serum level of Ig E.
