The authors summarize Prof. LIU Jiaxiang’s practical experience of treating cancer by "strengthening vital Qi"and the rules of "eliminating pathogenic factor". The authors think that cancer is a malignant disease with whole body deficiency and part excess. Strengthening vital Qi should be the main principle in treatment. But the dialectical relationship between strengthening vital Qi and eliminating pathogenic factor should be paid attention. Protecting vital Qi and eliminating cancer / pathogenic factor should be combined. Moderate attack might contribute to the recovery of vital Qi. As herbs of eliminating toxin / pathogenic factor are most drastic and poisonous

the authors put forward that besides treating the mass with "toxicity"

preventing the harm of "herb-toxicity"should be considered.The right dosage for using herbs of counteracting the toxin should cause no stomach Qi damage and eliminate pathogenic factor without damaging vital Qi.
