Objective To observe the clinical curative effect and the possible mechanism of Modified Sanpian Decoction( 加味散偏汤) in treating migraine with wind phlegm blood stasis syndrome. Methods Using the random number table to divided 92 migraine patients into control group and treatment group
46 cases in each group. The treatment group was given Modified Sanpian Decoction orally
one dose per day. The control group was given Flunarizine Hydrochloride capsules 5 mg orally
1 time before sleep. If there was severe pain
added Ibuprofen tablets. Both groups were treated for 1 month. Recorded the migraine scores and pain visual analogue( VAS) scores before and after treatment
and the use of analgesics during the treatment
determined the levels of the calcitonin gene-related peptide( CGRP) and endothelin( ET) levels before and after treatment
determined the clinical curative effect after treatment. Results The total clinical effective rate in the treatment group and the control group were 89. 13% and71. 74% respectively
and there was statistic difference( P < 0. 05). The migraine scores
VAS scores and the Plasma ET levels after treatment in the two groups were significantly lower than those before treatment( P < 0. 05)
plasma CGRP levels were significantly higher( P < 0. 01)
and the improvement in the treatment group was better than that in the control group( P < 0. 05). The number of patients using analgesics was smaller than that in the control group( P < 0. 01). Conclusion Modified Sanpian Decoction in treating migraine with wind phlegm blood stasis syndrome seems to have remarkable clinical curative effect
which may be achieved by modulating the plasma CGRP
