Objective To systematically analyze the current status and problems in the domestic clinical trials which take massage with ointment as the main therapy. Methods Taking CNKI

VIP network and Wanfang Datebase as the retrieval sources

searched the clinical trials for massage with ointment therapy. Analyzed its application status

and counted the treated diseases categories

massage-used ointment formulas

and the herbs used in these formulas. Results Totally 75 articles were included

with 9 articles treating internal diseases（ 12%）

11 articles treating surgical disorders（ 15%）

40 articles treating bone diseases（ 53%）

and 15 articles treating pediatric diseases（ 20%）. There are various ointment formulations

and the herbs used include blood activating herbs

tonifying deficiency herbs

interior warming herbs

heat clearing herbs and aromatic damp-resolving herbs. Conclusion Massage with ointment therapy is mainly used to treat bone diseases currently

but the overall application is still less frequent. More research is needed to explore the mechanism of action and application range.
