Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of Xifeng Dingxuan Fang（ 熄风定眩方） in treating vascular vertigo. Methods Randomly divided 126 cases of patients with vascular vertigo into treatment group and control group

with 63 cases each. The treatment group was treated with Xifeng Dingxuan Fang while the control group was given flunarizine capsule 10 mg

orally taken before sleep. Evaluated curative effects after treating for 2 weeks

and compared scores of dizziness handicap inventory（ DHI

from three aspects of body evaluation

emotion evaluation and function evaluation） of patients in both groups before and after treatment. Results There were 3 cases dropped out in each group. The total effective rate in the treatment group was 91. 7%

while that of the control group was80. 0%. The difference had statistical significance（ P < 0. 05）. Total scores and scores of each item in DHI scale of patients in both groups after treatment decreased compared with that before treatment（ P < 0. 01）. Among them

scores of emotion evaluation in DHI scale of patients in the treatment group after treatment remarkably decreased compared with the control group（ P < 0. 01）. Conclusion Xifeng Dingxuan Fang and flunarizine capsule could both effectively improve clinical symptoms of vascular vertigo

upgrade patients’ quality of life. And Xifeng Dingxuan Fang seems superior to flunarizine capsule in improving vertigo-induced mental disorders.
