Although the domination of the spirit and mind can be attributed into five Zang-organs
they are mainly dominated by the heart."Brain as the sea of the narrow"is based on the essence the kidney stores
so it is said that the brain governs congenital spirit. In Chinese medicine
the function of the brain is generally attributed to the heart
and heart (brain) is the governor of five Zang-organs and six Fu-organs
in charge of the mental consciousness and activities. The metabolites of the intestinal flora may be the material foundation of the close relationship between intestinal microenvironment and the spirit; the nervous system may be the network system in the intestinal microenvironment closely related to the spirit. The study on intestinal microenvironment such as intestinal flora
intestine-brain axis and mucosal immunity is expected to reveal the biological basis of the "spirit"and to perfect the scientific connotation and denotation of the "the heart governs the mind".
