Glucocorticoid is a commonly-used drug to treat kidney disease
but its long-term large-dose application would bring a lot of side effects. The authors sketch out the understandings of glucocorticoid in Chinese and Western medicine. Based on this
the authors summarize the characteristics of Chinese medicine pathogenesis syndrome owing to kidney disease treated by glucocorticoid therapy include injuring Yin-Yang leading to aggravation of kidney deficiency
helping heat producing dryness to consume Qi and injure Yin
helping dampness producing heat
as well as injuring blood leading to blood stasis and aggravation of blood stasis. The authors put forward Chinese medicine differentiation and treatment strategy in kidney disease treated by glucocorticoid therapy
which means according to the using dose of glucocorticoid
treating by different stages
treating based on specific disease and syndrome
adopting tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation method throughout the disease treatment
to provide thinking for Chinese medicine as adjuvant for glucocorticoid in differentiation and treatment of kidney disease.
