Peripheral neurotoxicity is one of the common side effects of chemotherapy. Combined with the basic theory of Chinese medicine
this article raises that the pathogenesis of peripheral neurotoxicity caused by chemotherapy is that spleen-kidney deficiency and subsequent resource lack for generation of Qi and blood
combined with that chemotherapy drugs severely injure Qi and blood
turbid phlegm and stasis obstruct channels and collaterals. The root is Qi and blood deficiency
and the branch is internal toxins such as turbid phlegm and stasis. According to this
two basic therapeutic principles are determined
which are supplementing deficiency and resolving toxins. The key is reinforcing kidney
dissolving stasis and resolving toxins
and the specific methods are fortifying spleen and reinforcing kidney; regulating and reinforcing liver and kidney; invigorating blood
dissolving stasis and resolving toxins; dissipating cold
unblocking collaterals and resolving toxins as well as dispelling wind
