Objective To explore the Chinese medicine syndrome of patients with severe human infected avian influenza H7N9 and to examine the effect of Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment. Methods Clinical data of 9 patients including clinical symptoms and characteristics of tongue and pulse with severe human infected avian influenza H7N9 were collected from April 1 st to May 7 th om 2017 in Chengdu. The Chinese medicine syndrome features were explored. The uses of prescriptions and herbs in Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation and treatment were calculated. At the same time
the clinical effect was examined. Results Dampness and phlegm were the main pathogenesis in 9 patients
some patients with deficiency and blood stasis. As for treatment
dissipating dampness and expelling phlegm methods were commonly used. Huopo Xialing Decoction( 藿朴夏苓汤) and Dayuan Yin( 达原饮) were the basic prescriptions to modify. Patients with Qi and Yin deficiency should be treated by benefiting Qi and nourishing Yin methods at the same time. Patients with blood stasis should be treated by dissipating phlegm and dredging collaterals. The use frequency of Fabanxia [Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum]
Fuling [Poria]
Gancao [Radix Glycyrrhizae ]
Houpo [Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis ]
Chenpi [Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae ]
Kuxingren [semen armeniacae amaraee]
Huoxiang [Agastache rugosus]
Zhebeimu [Bulbus Fritillariae Thunbergii]and Chishao [Radix Paeoniae Rubra]was high in the prescriptions. In 9 cases
6 patients were cured with virus nucleic acid turning negative
and the other 3 patients died. Conclusion In patients with severe human infected avian influenza H7 N9
dampness and phlegm were the main pathogenesis
with deficiency and blood stasis. The methods of expelling dampness
dissipating phlegm
benefiting Qi
resolving stasis and dredging collaterals were mainly used
