Objective To observe the curative effect of Baibofeng Granules（ 白驳风颗粒） combined with 308 nm excimer laser on the non-segmental vitiligo and its possible mechanism. Methods Selected 62 patients with nonsegmental vitiligo as the treatment group

treated with traditional Chinese medicine Baibofeng Granules

1 dose a day orally

combined with 308 nm excimer laser irradiation on local lesions

treated for 3 months. Observed the clinical efficacy of patients with different stages

lesion areas and disease courses. Detected the levels of serum intercellular adhesion molecule 1（ ICAM-1） and chemokine 9（ CXCL9） before and after treatment

and compared them with serum index of 31 healthy individuals（ the control group）. Results The clinical total effective rates of patients during progressive stage

with the lesion area < 5%

and with course of disease < 1 years were 86. 49%

91. 43%and 91. 67% respectively

significantly higher than those of the patients during stable period（ 64%）

with the lesion area≥5%（ 70. 37%） and with disease course≥1 year（ 73. 08%

P < 0. 05）. Before treatment

the serum levels of ICAM-1 and CXCL9 of all patients were higher than those of the control group

and that of patients in progressive stage was higher than that of stable period; those with lesion area≥5% was higher than those with the lesion area <5%; those with disease duration < 1 years was higher than those with disease duration≥1 years（ P < 0. 05）. After treatment

except for the stable period

ICAM-1 and CXCL9 levels of other patients were significantly lower than those before treatment（ P < 0. 05）. Conclusion The clinical effect of Baibofeng Granules combined with 308 nm excimer laser on non-segmental vitiligo was definite

the mechanism may be through the regulation of serum ICAM-1 and CXCL9 expression to exert its treatment effect.
